Shade Sails California is a Tenshon, Inc. company. Tenshon is a shade sail and shade canopy manufacturing company located in Phoenix, Arizona. We specialize in the design, engineering, and fabrication of shade sail, shade canopy, permanent umbrellas, shade sail structures, shade hip structures, and custom shade solutions for outdoor applications, using HDPE (high-density polyethylene) shade fabrics and structural steel.

We currently provide installation support worldwide and our facility is set up to manufacture shade products just in time (JIT), which offers flexibility to our customers and allows for complete customization of our shade products.

Shade Structures

One of the most common terms in the shade sail industry is shade structures. While somewhat broad as term, a shade structure basically classifies anything built for the purpose of providing shade. In our online store the distinction is drawn between purchasing only a shade sail, which could be rigged between trees and/or existing structures and shade structures, which includes steel hardware and the shade sail. There are a wide variety and styles of shade structures and they often get lumped into the category of shade canopy and playground shade.

Shade Sails

Since history has been recorded there have been examples of shade sails being used to shade people from the harmful effects of the sun. However, up until the 1990’s there was confusion as to what to call these structures. Many people still call them shade canopy, sun sails, shade structures, sun shades and even the brand name coolaroo shades is used to describe them. The industry term for this product is shade sail. Shade Canopies

A shade canopy is more appropriately represented by portable shade tents and awning type structures. However, as the term gains more notoriety, shade canopy is often the more broadly searched term in search engines. As a point of reference, shade canopies are more typically constructed of canvas and pvc materials, while shade sails are constructed of shade fabric like HDPE mesh. It seems that most often the term shade canopy is used when describing commercial applications of the shade fabric like playground shade, park shade and shade structures in general that are designed much more for their functional application.
